RADIOLOGY

Radiology or diagnostic imaging is the use of imaging modalities, such as radiography, CT, MRI and ultrasound.

Radiology and diagnostic imaging are used synonymously. Imaging modalities frequently used in marine mammal medicine include radiography, ultrasound, CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). PET-CT, fMRI and nuclear scintigraphy have also been used but are beyond the scope of this site.

Please use the drop down menus to navigate through and find out more information regarding on the individual modalities.  The information provided is purposefully very basic to help simply with determining which is the most appropriate imaging modality for a given situation.
